Change is a challenging process.  1.  You can’t stop it – it’s inevitable. 2.  When change is afoot, the status quo is no longer relevant – it just doesn’t work.  3. New ways of thinking, feeling and behaving are required.

Here are a several tips to help you navigate and lead others through the process.

  1. Share specifics about where the organization is headed and why.  You’ll have to reinforce this message multiple times.
  2. Identify what is changing, and what is not.
  3. Acknowledge feelings of loss, fear, uncertainty, perhaps even anger, that accompany change.  Losses like relationships, power and influence, a sense of control or the comfort of known routine.
  4. Clarify and provide the support people needed to traverse the gap between the current state and the anticipated new state.
