According to Gallup, 3.6 million people resigned in May and a staggering 48% of US workers – across functional areas and up and down the hierarchy – are actively looking for opportunities.  Plus, unfilled jobs are at a record high.  This “Great Resignation,” is occurring across industries.

I agree with Gallup’s research. The most effective way to interrupt this costly, disruptive workplace dynamic, strengthen productivity, and enhance worker satisfaction is to make sure the local manager – the person with whom employees interact day-to-day – is a skilled people manager who engages them through meaningful conversations, sets clear expectations, creates accountability, manages each person’s performance in ways that brings out their best, and creates a local culture that results in retention.
