You Can Train Your Memory Like You Train Your Body

Would it surprise you to learn that there are people who train and compete in Memory Championships? Scientist in the Netherlands have proof that you can train to supersize your memory and the effects can be long lasting.

After using functional and structural MRI’s on world-class memory athletes to identify patterns, they selected people of similar intelligence and trained them for long and short periods of time using a specific method.  The LOCI Method is used by memory athletes who train for competition.  Study participants who trained for the longer period retained the most information and were able to recall long strings of words four months later. Test subjects’ MRIs revealed new connectivity patterns similar to those of memory champions.

According to study author Martin Dresler, once people become familiar with the memory strategies and how to apply them, they can maintain high performance without much further training.
