To have a lasting impact as a leader, develop your people! Stop being so task-oriented, to-do-list driven, scheduled to the hilt. Your people need you! Make time to lead and grow your biggest asset.

Meet one-on-one with your reports, regularly, to discuss the specifics of their role, major projects and their current performance. Affirm demonstrated strengths and achievements. If improvement is needed, identify one or two specific items, no more, on for continued growth.

The more people understand that you notice and value them, the more loyal and connected they feel to the organization, and to you. Magnify your impact; invest in developing in those you manage or mentor.

As Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook says, “Leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.”
