Change tends to push us out of our comfort zone, which generates fear. But, as Winston Churchill once said, “There is nothing wrong in change, if it is in the right direction. To improve is to change, to be perfect is to have changed often.”

What a great reframe! Churchill’s quote reminds us that not all change moves us in the best direction and, yet, to accomplish anything we have to change and change often.

If change paralyzes you, work on shifting gradually. Test new ideas. Try fresh approaches to what you do and how you do it. Don’t demand that you “get it right” immediately. Instead, put forth your best effort and learn from the results. Then, attempt the next step that aligns with your goals.

Progress in life is similar to sailing. Orienting the boat’s head into or through the wind may seemingly divert you from your path, but ultimately the zig-zag route gets you where you want to go.
