If your company values collaboration over independence, Fast Company recommends that hiring managers ask the following questions to find the people who are the best fit for your collaborative culture.

  • Tell me about a time you worked with a team.
  • What was your approach to collaborating with your teammates?
  • What role did you play and how did you contribute?
  • What benefits did you experience? What challenges arose and how did you address them?”

Remember to ask each candidate the same questions, in the same order. And, take the time to score their answers as systematically and objectively as possible.

These questions will reveal whether the interviewee enjoys, even thrives, in a team-driven environment. Do they prioritize team or individual success? Are their interpersonal skills consistent with someone who works well with others and contributes to achievement of team goals?
