A new study released by universities in the UK and New Zealand looked at the pros and cons of a digital detox while traveling.  While there were some cons, the pros won the day.  Here’s more…

Although some travelers who disconnected experienced anxiety when they weren’t able to e-communicate or access navigation apps, the vast majority of those who embraced a tech-free vacation reported being much more attentive and focused on their surroundings without the distractions of incoming messages, notifications or alerts from mobile apps.  Nearly all who disconnected reported being more engaged with locals and other travellers.

Although easy and quick access to directions and recommendations caused some stress, study participants who asked locals for advice say they received excellent guidance and learned more about sights and places that weren’t on tourism websites or in guidebooks.
