Every year, Gallup invites their client organizations to apply for the Exceptional Workplace Award.  Part of the process includes nominating the best managers in their organization.  Here are two things that stood out when 2019 Manager of the Year Finalists were asked how they lead, navigate change and develop successful teams.

One manager said he coaches his team in a way that allows for genuine candor.  Every morning, they have a safety huddle and he asks if anything has happened.  The goal is to create a culture where it’s okay to say they messed up, and then the team can work together to find solutions.

Other managers said they care about employees as people.  They think beyond the workplace and try to help employees live their best lives.  Just knowing that a manager cares can make a big difference.
