The great Zig Ziglar once quipped, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.” He is right. Motivation is fleeting. It’s something we call on when we’re pressed against the edges of our comfort zone.

To Ziglar’s statement, I add that a steady diet of the same motivation can lose its effectiveness, as well. We must fill our motivational toolbox with inspirational tools that are unique to us.

For example:

  • Keep your favorite inspirational authors on your shelf or in your reading device.
  • Identify quotes that bring you back to center and remind you of your capacity to push through difficult times.
  • Write down your goals and read them when you need to reframe or reconnect with your big picture.
  • Keep a photo of the loved-one you wish to inspire close by and glance at it when things get tough.

Sometimes motivation is just about regaining or refreshing your perspective.
