Maintaining a positive outlook can be difficult. But consciously choosing the focus on the positive can build resilience for difficult times. Harvard Medical School offers these three tips that will help you harness your positive psychology.

  • Express gratitude. Show thankful appreciation for simple things like a roof over your head or having people who care about you. This very act can reveal that much of the good in your life comes from outside of you. This will allow you to connect to something larger than yourself.
  • Leverage your strengths. First you must understand what they are. Your strengths may be something that comes easy to you, or something for which you’re often complemented. Positivity comes from applying your strengths in daily life.
  • Savor the good. Moments that bring joy often slip away because we’re multi-tasking, or we don’t take the time to fully experience the pleasure they bring.
