Do you dream about leaving the protective cocoon of an established organization to become an independent entrepreneur?  According to the Harvard Business Review, you have a lot of company.

They cite an Upwork survey that says the freelance workforce in the US has grown by 3.7 million in the past five years.  In 2018, one in three Americans worked independently.  The article’s contributors spoke to some 400 independent and employed consultants in Europe and North America.

Here are some of the upsides that were reported:  better work-life balance.  Sixty-seven percent reported earning the same or more than working as an employee.  The wage gap between women and men went from 30% for the employed down to 3% among freelancers.  And productivity increased with office politics out of the way.
