Dale Carnegie once said, “One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.”

Even the master of winning friends and influencing people understood the value in appreciating what we have. This goes beyond enjoying life outside of work. At work, good things are happening around you. It may feel like the bad or annoying things are all there is to notice. But, remember, whatever we give our attention to magnifies in our lives.

Appreciate workplace relationships you’ve developed. When you accomplish something, enjoy the moment privately without looking for someone to whom you can brag. Genuinely congratulate someone else for her achievement, big or small. That act alone will double the number of people around you who are enjoying the gifts we often ignore.
