In a CNN interview Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo, admitted, “I always did something I was a little not ready to do.”  That feeling at the end of the day, where you’re like, ‘what have I gotten myself into?’ I realized that sometimes when you have that feeling and you push through it, something really great happens.”

When you feel fear, that pit in your belly, that twinge in your chest, you’re making contact with your growing edge.  You’re on the verge of entering unknown territory, the place where uncertainty and potential failure reside.  The fear you feel is your internal border patrol protecting the boundaries of your comfort zone. 

The simple truth is real achievement doesn’t live in your comfort zone.  It lives in that place that your border patrol is hiding from you.  Fortunately, your border patrol is only in your head.  Pushing beyond it – even just a little – will provide a glimpse into your true potential.  The more often you push through, the less fearful you’ll become when you must inevitably push through future obstacles.

What opportunities are you facing that scare you – that you don’t feel quite ready for?  What prospects exist that you could take advantage of, if you were willing to be vulnerable and open to the possibility?

Whenever you face a new opportunity, think of it as an adventure and take the risk of pushing through your fear.  On the other side of your self-limiting idea of “I’m not ready for this,” is a new reality wherein you learn what’s needed and garner the support and inner strength necessary to succeed.
