Olympic gold medalist and World Cup soccer champ Abby Wambach is turning her attention to building women leaders. The author of the new book, “Wolfpack,” says it’s time to update the rules that governs how women approach leadership.

She told the New York Times that she wants women to:

  • Champion each other.   Power, success and joy are not pies, says Wambach. A bigger slice for one doesn’t mean a smaller slice for another.
  • Be grateful AND ambitious.  Don’t let gratitude silence your voice to demand more.
  • Make failure your fuel. Failure doesn’t mean you’re out of the game.  She says, imperfect men have led since the beginning of time.  Imperfect women should give themselves permission to join in.
  • Lead from the bench.  Leadership means every woman allows her voice to guide her and influence those she cares about.

Wambach says when one woman stands up and speaks out, it gives others permission to do the same, creating a domino effect.
